LUNIK, 2007

Installation

This work is inspired by the Russian rocket Lunik 1, the first craft to be sent from the Earth into space in 1954. With the Moon as its intended target, Lunik was equipped with highly sensitive measuring devices, but with no camera on board. Soon after its launch, though, Lunik 1 disappeared and contact with its headquarters on Earth was lost. Within the lens of the object there is a series of slide projections (in loop format) that feature drawn images and texts to document the Lunik’s travel.

Materials: steel, laquer, screeding compound, plexiglass, plastic, metal, glass, fabric, adhesive tape, slide projector, slides, microphone, cable.

Dimensions:174 x 75 x 75 cm
